My love of tea runs deep
My relationship with tea began in my Grandparents kitchen, where I stand looking out over the Lyttelton harbour, lights dancing on the water, the port hills wrapped around me, a steaming cup of rugged black tea in my hands.
My Grandfather, Bardot, returned from the Hiroshima post-war clean up, inspired by Japanese tea culture.
He would sneak tea buds into the temuka teapot in quiet protest of my Grandmother’s continued use of tea bags, and we would slowly sip.
Tea is a constant, a thread that binds my whānau together - as we celebrate, mourn, and simply enjoy being with each other.
