The process of making jasmine scented green tea is one of dedication and timing. The orchestration of these two plants - the give and take between - shows us how the dance of two unique, complimentary individuals can bring so much magic into the world, and into your cup!
Scenting green tea with jasmine blossoms has been practised in China for over 1000 years and is conducted during a short Jasmine tea season: June to August each year. Jasmine buds that are primed to blossom are picked in the afternoon and set aside to dry. The jasmine buds + green tea are laid out together in basket trays when the cool evening air coaxes the blossoms to open up, releasing their aroma and flavour into the receptive tea leaves. The tea plant is highly absorbent, making it the perfect medium for scenting (which is why it is so fundamental to drink wildcrafted or organic tea as the plant mops up chemicals, sprays and environmental toxins that get released into your cup during infusion).
The scenting process takes approximately 4 hours each evening. Higher grade green teas require multiple scenting sessions, sometimes up to 7-8 times! Much care and dedication go into producing this highly aromatic tea. You can really taste, feel and appreciate this tea art.
Some jasmine teas are scented with artificial flavours and/or cheap jasmine oil, often to mask a low grade tea base. With a high grade tea scented with real jasmine flowers, we are so excited to bring you this tea of the month!
Along with the rich antioxidant properties of organic green tea, jasmine flower offers much in the wellbeing department. The aroma is instantly relaxing and soothing, benefitting those with anxiety and stress-tension. Headaches, sore/irritated stomachs, stress-related symptoms are calmed by this gentle & inspiring floral balm. The symbiotic combination of these two plants makes it the perfect tea for after meals, aiding digestion and soothing gripes.
Enjoy this special tea of the month, Sippers! Jasmine tea is wonderful to bring into your life as a 'daily tea'. Serve it up as a special beverage for visitors, treat yourself in the afternoons when energy often begins to fade, enjoy as a refreshing elixir after meals, and simply for the joy of watching the pearls unfurl slowly in your cup.
